Örtengren Tied for Lead Ahead of Hills Open Finale

Harm, Örtengren, Pettersson Hills Open

It’s all set for a thrilling Sunday finish at Hills Open, where Sweden’s 20-year-old amateur Meja Örtengren shares the lead with Germany’s Leonie Harm after two rounds at Hills Golf & Sports Club.

Örtengren, who began the day one shot off the pace, showed both resilience and maturity. After an early bogey she bounced back with key birdies and steady play down the stretch.

“It was steady today, more steady than yesterday. I made some nice par saves, especially towards the end, so I’m very happy with today,” said Örtengren.

She has her brother on the bag this week, something she credits for helping her relax on the course:

“He’s been great. It’s fun to be out there with him – talking, taking the focus off golf for a while.”

Sweden’s Lisa Pettersson is also in contention, just two shots back in a tie for third place after carding three-under through 36 holes.

“It was very solid today,” Pettersson explained. “Some pins were tricky, but I managed to hole a few long putts. It’s always special to play well at home with the crowd behind you.”

Harm’s comeback story

Germany’s Leonie Harm produced the round of the day with a flawless five-under, surging into the joint lead. The 27-year-old admits she nearly walked away from the sport last year before rediscovering her game with the help of a new coach.

“I was ready to quit after India, but then I met a coach in Saudi Arabia who made a few tweaks, and suddenly my swing felt like mine again,” said Harm. “This course can punish you quickly – patience is the only way around here.”

Final round ahead

Chasing the leaders are Momoka Kobori (NZL), Nastasia Nadaud (FRA) and Darcey Harry (WAL), all two shots behind, with Spain’s Luna Sobron Galmes a further stroke back.

In total, 65 players made the cut at +7. Sunday’s final round tees off at 9:30am, with the leaders heading out at 11:30am local time.
